Project Apollo

First was Project Mercury. Next was Project Gemini. And then there was Project Apollo. The goal: to land men on the moon and return them safely to the earth.

This was reality TV in the late 60s and early 70s. Every mission a list of "never before" played out in front of the world and the risk was NOT being voted off; the risk was life itself.

Apollo 8, the first mission to place men in orbit around the moon, was the only Apollo mission to go to the moon without the lunar module. Apollo 8 had only one engine. Unlike all other moon missions, they had no Lunar Modual as a "lifeboat" had the command modual engine failed. Had that engine not worked they would still be in orbit today.
