JAccountant
JAccountant is a very small java app about 30k that will calculate payments for loans and build amortization schedules. In addition, it will help you shop by calculating the merchandise price after a percent discount as well as a tip calculator.
Version 3.0 has several enhancements, support for touchscreen devices and sending emails with the generated loan information. The following parameters can be entered:
*Loan Amount
*Interest Rate
*Number of Years
*Periods per Year
*Periods/Payment
*Interest Caclulated monthly ,semiannually
The default values for US and Europe are preloaded so all you are required to enter is the loan amount, term, and interest rate. There is a Canadian preset that will set these for the Canadian market. Once the loan parameters are entered you can either calculate the payment, or generate an amortization schedule that list the following columns.
*Period
*Payment
*Interest Earned
*Payment to Interest
*Payment to Principal
*Remaining Balance
For the mortgage officer, car salesman, or finance student – this application is very accurate. The math object is based off Suns newest version of Java. Through trial and error I measured speed against accuracy and limited the payment calculation to 11 decimal places and the amortization calculation to 33 decimal places. Testing against Excel showed no differences.
The Shopping Buddy feature will assist the bargain shopper. Enter the price, the percent off, then hit calculate – it is that simple.
